It’s National Novel Writing Month this November and I’ve decided to finally take part…
If you weren’t aware, I’ve been plotting a novel on and off for about a year now.
It’s my life goal to write a book.
But, somewhere along the line, I got stuck in a planning rut because I became obsessed with researching ideas. I’ve a shelf full of notebooks, a ‘free printables’ addiction and 30 internet tabs open perpetually. So this November, I’m
having an intervention following NaNoWriMo and focusing on writing a draft of my book.
No more saying “I’m not ready yet!”
Thankfully, I’ve a general idea about where I want my story to go. It’s not a full plot by any means: I’ve a beginning, a very vague middle and hundreds of ideas for an end. I hope that by directing all my creative energy towards this, I can get something written down. Even if that something is awful, it’s still something. Just remember:
“The first draft of anything is shit.” -Ernest Hemingway.
For me, writing is a distraction from my daily life. I can create a different world and lose myself in it; It’s an escape. And it’s also a platform where I can be heard.
I have strong ideas and passionate opinions that I want to incorporate into my book, it’s the easiest way for me to communicate. I want to make people question themselves because a good book makes you do that, it challenges the reader. I think it’s important for writers to share their own views and ideas, no matter how radical.
Wish me luck!
Thanks for reading. If you’re taking part in NaNoWriMo, Good Luck!
